5 /5 Jakob Richardson: A bold, beautiful, and brilliant experience in Bloomfield.
In my pursuit for Pittsburgh restaurants that impress the senses, FET-FISK is a brilliant experience.
When you walk in the mood is set: ambient low lighting, unique and beautiful decor that feels eclectic yet fitting. A cookie cutter layout offers different seating sections with dividers, booths, tables and the occasional nook and cranny for an elegant and enchanting evening. When you sit down, you forget you’re in Pittsburgh, and rather in a different dimension.
The menu is refined, inventive and upscale. FET-FISK is a Scandinavian inspired restaurant with one of a kind flavors. FET-FISK knows its uniqueness, and executes it to the fullest. We ordered the Daily Raw Oysters, Danish Sea Caviar, Beet + Apple Salad, and the Rye Foccacia. All were exceptional in quality, flavor profiles, and presentation. The Beet + Apple salad was a bit on the strong side with horseradish, to the point it seemed over powering on my behalf; my husband disagreed, and devoured it. What I admired about the selection of food were the smaller plate options which offers you the chance to roll up your sleeves, try something new and different, evolving your expectations of what Pittsburgh really has to offer.
The service was good. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. The hostess however, had a pretentious attitude and came across as abrasive. He reminded us rather bluntly that despite being 10 minutes late to our reservation, that reservations are strictly 2 hours and the restaurant needs the table back at 8 pm. The approach was tactless, but I understood the restaurant is in demand. After ordering we waited no longer than 20 minutes and food was served.
A few considerations: FET-FISK does have a bar with many speciality cocktails. I am sober and choose not to participate but the menu looks very enticing. The food menu could be considered on the pricier side, especially with portion sizes of the dishes.
The atmosphere and uniqueness makes this not just a restaurant, but an experience worth a visit. FET-FISK is an intimate place for a special occasion that celebrates Nordic flare while embracing the Appalachian region. I look forward to returning with guests to impress.
